2020 Pro Bowl Running Back Re-Signs with the Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings had a phenomenal regular season going 14-3, however, they finished second in the division behind the 15-2 Detroit Lions. They actually had a chance to win in Week 18 against the Lions to claim the NFC North and the first seed within the NFC, but unfortunately, the Vikings could not get the job done when it mattered most. One of the game-changers and x-factors for this team was running back Aaron Jones who they signed after being released by the division rival Green Bay Packers after seven seasons. After a tremendous year, it was announced that the 2020 Pro Bowl running back has signed a two-year deal with the Vikings worth 20 million dollars, 13 million guaranteed.
Jones was selected by the Packers in the fifth round as the 182nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. As a member of the Packers, the 30-year-old running back made the Pro Bowl once and was tied with the most rushing touchdowns in 2019 alongside Derrick Henry. What makes this past season interesting, is the fact that the 2020 Pro Bowl running back rushed his most career yards while with the Vikings. Even playing with a “backup” such as Sam Darnold, Jones was able to produce one of his best statistical seasons and the Vikings put up an enormous 14-win season. He certainly has the chance to do the same again with the Vikings.
This past season, Jones played in all 17 games for Minnesota. With 255 rushing attempts, the 30-year-old produced 1,138 rushing yards along with five touchdowns. He also had 51 receptions with 408 receiving yards. On November 24th in a matchup against the Chicago Bears, the 2020 Pro Bowl running back ran 108 yards and had a touchdown during a 30-27 win. With Minnesota, Jones has the chance to make 2025 another special season.
