28-Year-Old Tight End Agrees to Deal Back with the Saints
The New Orleans Saints franchise certainly had one of their most disappointing seasons in a long while. New Orleans sank to the bottom of the NFC South after they finished with a mediocre 5-12 record. Although the Saints did not have a great season, tight end Juwan Johnson had arguably one of the best seasons of his career. It was certainly a make-or-break year for him as he needed to solidify himself as a crucial piece into the Saints offense. Now as a free agent, reports have come out by Ian Rapoport that the 28-year-old tight end has signed a three-year 30.75 million dollar deal back with the Saints.
Johnson signed with the New Orleans Saints after going undrafted in 2020. While he only played seven games during his rookie season, the 28-year-old tight end was able to play 14 games the following season. 2022 may be one of Johnson’s best seasons breaking a bunch of career-highs and playing a high of 16 games. The following season, Juwan played just 13 games, starting in 11 of those. Finally, in 2024, Johnson played all 17 games for the first time in his career which is the best thing for someone heading into free agency.
In 17 games last season, Johnson had 50 receptions, recording 548 receiving yards, along with three touchdowns. In the final game of the regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 28-year-old tight end was targeted seven times but had just six catches for 80 yards during a 27-19 loss. Going into this upcoming season with the Saints, Johnson must continue to try and improve his game during the prime of his career. After playing all 17 games, Juwan needs to continue this consistency and add a few quirks to his game. The hope is he’ll continue doing so going with the Saints.
