A Three-Team Race: Who Will Take Home the La Liga Title?
A single point separates the top three teams in La Liga from each other. Barcelona is currently in first place with 54 points, Real Madrid in second place with 54 points, and Atlético Madrid in third place with 53 points. With three months left in the season, it’s anyone’s game, and all three teams have shown no signs of stopping. This past weekend, all three teams won their matches. With such a close race, fans wonder who will take home the La Liga title.
Barcelona
Barcelona currently holds first place on the La Liga table with 54 points, the same as Real Madrid. Although the two rivals in El Clásico have the same points, Barcelona has first place since the team has more goals this season. The team has the highest chance of winning the La Liga title with their incredible season. In the UEFA Champions League, Barcelona went straight through to the Round of 16, placing second in the competition, proving they’re better than most of their worldwide competitors this season. With an incredible offensive line, including, but not limited to, Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha, it’s hard to strategize against the Catalan team since there is all-over offensive pressure from Barcelona. Barcelona also succeeds defensively, with their goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczęsny, on a current clean sheet run. Overall, Barcelona continues to thrive, and it will be hard for many La Liga teams to knock them out of the top spot.
Real Madrid
However, if there’s one team that can take down Barcelona, it will be their long-time rival, Real Madrid, the reigning La Liga Champions. All seemed to be going well for Real Madrid, which had a previous seven-point lead in La Liga. Barcelona quickly caught up, but as La Liga has proven repeatedly, only time can tell who will come up on top. Real Madrid has since re-found their footing and confidence, which was seen over the weekend against Girona and in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester City, knocking the English team out in a 6-3 win in their two matches. The Madrid locals have a balanced team, with younger players, like Kylian Mbappé or Vinicius Junior, leading the team in offensive tactics and older players, like Luka Modrić or Antonio Rüdiger, to fill in the necessary gaps. Overall, Real Madrid’s balance and confidence will allow them to move back up in the table and reach the position they were in not too long ago.
Atlético Madrid
Atlético Madrid holds third place with 53 points, one less than Real Madrid and Barcelona, making them a mere step behind the two. Since signing Argentinian Julián Alvarez to play in the front alongside Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, the duo has been unstoppable, scoring goal after goal. Their defensive line also shines, with versatile players like César Azpilicueta and Nahuel Molina helping control the game’s flow. However, the star of their defense is goalkeeper Jan Oblak, one of the strongest goalkeepers in soccer today. With everyone focusing on the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid for the La Liga trophy, Atlético Madrid can easily blindside everyone and take the title themselves.
No one knows who will win and earn the title between the three teams, but none seem to be slowing down anytime soon. With all three teams still gunning for the La Liga title, the UEFA Champions League trophy, and the Copa Del Rey, their rivalries between each other are at an all-time high. Any slip-up from Barcelona, Real Madrid, or Atlético Madrid will allow the other teams to pull ahead, making the race for the title all the more stressful. With three months left in the season, everyone’s waiting to see if Barcelona can keep their top spot for the title if Real Madrid will take back their position, or if Atlético will win in a come-from-behind victory.
