Dallas Cowboys Star Guard Retires: What It Means for Dallas

NFL

After 11 years in the NFL, all of them with the Dallas Cowboys, star guard Zack Martin has retired from the NFL. Zack has a long list of achievements. He is a nine-time Pro Bowler and was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. He has also been named to the NFL’s All-Pro First Team seven times and the All-Pro Second Team twice. On top of those accomplishments, he has more Pro Bowls to his name than holding penalties. Playing over 10,000 snaps for the Cowboys, Zack Martin will be regarded as a legendary offensive guard and is a surefire nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

However, what does the retirement of Zack Martin mean for the Dallas Cowboys? Dallas has the option to continue with Brock Hoffman, who started at Zack’s position after Martin was hit by a season-ending ankle surgery this past year. Dallas also has the option to draft a right guard. The Cowboys currently hold the 12th, 44th, and 76th picks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. In addition, Dallas has a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and a seventh-round pick. Dallas can also sign a replacement in free agency.

The Dallas Cowboys have many options in the NFL Draft and many options in free agency, but they have a lot to do this offseason. Headlined by a new head coach, Dallas has the opportunity to make a big swing this offseason and return to their reputation as “America’s Team.” This is assuming Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to make big splashes in the offseason. Whatever the Dallas Cowboys do, or don’t do, Zack Martin will leave his legacy as a legendary offensive lineman.
