Don’t Sleep on the Rams’ Rookie Tight End

NFL

The Los Angeles Rams have a diamond in the rough waiting to explode onto the scene in 2025. His name is Terrance Ferguson. The Rams selected the intriguing tight end with the 46th pick in the 2025 NFL draft. While he wasn’t the first tight end off the board, he has the potential to be the best in the class. Coming out of the University of Oregon, the four-year standout showed a collection of tools and athletic traits that will translate perfectly to the NFL scene.

In four seasons at Oregon, Ferguson accumulated impressive numbers of 134 receptions, 1,537 yards, and 16 touchdowns. Most recently in the 2024 season, the tight end posted a spectacular 13.7 yards per reception and helped his Ducks earn the top seed overall in the College Football Playoff. Ferguson was instrumental to the Ducks' success, forming an elite connection with fellow draftmate Dillon Gabriel. While Ferguson was spectacular, where he landed in the NFL is the most intriguing.

The Los Angeles Rams are a rookie offensive skill position player's dream. With the help of head coach Sean McVay, a multitude of lowly drafted receivers and running backs have thrived in Los Angeles. McVay’s elaborate scheme allows receivers a load of opportunities, creating easy looks for receptions and yards after the catch. A wide receiver in a tight end's body, the six-foot-five tight end will rack up the numbers paired with quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The electric tight end is a superb athlete for his size. Running a 4.63 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, Ferguson can dust his opposing defender and build momentum for a massive chunk play. Ferguson has terrific hands at the catch-point and can catch balls from numerous angles. He can always be trusted to bring down the ball when the quarterback looks his way.

Despite the high draft pedigree, the rookie will have to work for his playing time. However, the door is wide open for Ferguson to steal the show. The Rams' starting tight end, Tyler Higbee, is coming off a significant injury, while backup Colby Parkinson hasn’t proven much in the NFL. No matter where he starts, don’t be surprised if the athletic freak finishes the year as the top tight end on the Rams. With a Super Bowl in mind, Ferguson can be a valuable asset to the Rams' offense.
