Five Quarterbacks the Raiders Could Target in Free Agency
With the NFL Free Agency coming up, there is no question that the Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback. The Raiders used three quarterbacks last year: Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell, and Desmond Ridder. With a new general manager and head coach in place, the Raiders must tackle the quarterback position to turn the franchise around. Several notable quarterbacks are set to become free agents, offering the Raiders a range of options to consider.
Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold is coming off a career year in which he threw for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also helped lead the Vikings to a 14-win season. Darnold's last two games could give teams second thoughts on bringing Darnold because he struggled against the depleted Detroit Lions defense in the final game of the regular season. Also, Darnold did not fare well in the Vikings' playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Darnold is still young at 27 and could be a decent fit for the Raiders.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson and the Raiders' new head coach, Pete Carroll, have a history together from their time with the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson has re-entered the free-agent market following a playoff run with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While he brings veteran leadership and a history of success, his age, and recent performance trends are factors to consider for the Raiders. Wilson could be considered for the Raiders, but they must be weary.
Justin Fields
Justin Fields played solid when starting for the Steelers earlier this season. Fields passed for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception in six starts. He also went 4-2 as a starter for the Steelers. The 25-year-old showed improvement with the Steelers, making him an intriguing option for teams seeking a young quarterback with potential upside.
Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston played well at times this season for the Cleveland Browns. He passed for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Known for his explosive playmaking ability, Winston also has a history of turnovers, which the Raiders must consider. Winston has a strong ability to lead, but his turnovers hurt him.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers enters free agency after parting ways with the New York Jets. Despite a less-than-stellar season in New York, his experience and previous success make him a compelling option. Rodgers has about one or two more years left and could serve as a bridge quarterback for the Raiders. If the Raiders can tolerate Rodgers' issues, it may be worth giving him a look.
