Former First-Round Pick Intends to Sign with the Bucks

Taurean Prince, the former first-round pick out of Baylor, will reportedly be signing with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The nine-year veteran has certainly played on his fair share of teams in the NBA and it is clear that at this stage he can be a solid role player. Throughout his career, he has needed to evolve his game to become a more efficient shooter especially because he is an undersized forward at only six feet and six inches tall. With the Bucks, Prince will look to fit in with a roster full of talent, led by superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

At the start of Prince’s career with the Atlanta Hawks, he was an effective starter averaging about 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game. However, once he got phased out of a starting role to become more of a role player for teams. This meant that his best chance of getting solid minutes for teams was to become an efficient shooter, particularly from the corners. When comparing his 2020 stats to this past season’s, his field goal percentage has risen by nearly seven percent, while his three-point percentage has also risen by six percent.

Taurean Prince understands that at this stage in his career, he is not a primary weapon offensively, but if he can provide efficient catch-and-shoot ability, that can open up opportunities for others on the court. This development in his efficiency is what led to Prince getting a significant increase in minutes last season for the Lakers. Prince’s ability to understand his role in an offense and not take unnecessary shots will help the overall offense run more effectively every time down the floor. With Prince consistently delivering about nine points per game, he is an effective role player that any team would love to have coming off the bench.
