Future Pro Bowl Safety Signs with the Packers
Safety Xavier McKinney played his first four NFL seasons with the New York Giants. During his second and fourth seasons with the team, McKinney put up possible Pro Bowl numbers but did not get the nod in either season. He’s 24-years-old and his future is looking bright. He will be a future Pro Bowler and show why he’s one of the best in the league at his position. Xavier just signed a brand-new four-year deal with the Green Bay Packers as it was just reported. We’ll see if his talents can surpass what we’ve seen, and hopefully, he’ll earn his chance to play in the Pro Bowl.
McKinney was a true freshman at the University of Alabama where he played 13 games as a backup safety and special teams player. The future Pro Bowler went on to have 73 tackles, two interceptions, and three tackles in his sophomore season. Xavier was named the Defensive MVP at the 2018 Orange Bowl. He would go on and be part of the Crimson Tide championship-winning team in 2018 when they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 26-23 in the College Football National Championship game. In 2020, Xavier McKinney was selected as the 36th in the NFL Draft by the Giants.
Last season, Xavier played in all 17 games for New York. The future Pro Bowler had 116 combined tackles, 78 of those being solo tackles, and 38 being assisted tackles. He had two tackles for loss of yardage, a half of a sack, 11 pass deflections, and three interceptions. In 2021, Xavier McKinney had 93 combined tackles, 59 solo, and 34 assisted, with ten pass deflections and five interceptions. Clearly, Xavier has grown over the past two seasons, and could potentially really make an impact with the … during the 2024 NFL season. His best game of the season was on November 19th against the Washington Commanders. Xavier had 13 combined tackles, eight solo, and five assisted, with one tackle for loss of yardage in a 31-19 win.
