Giants' Management Hits the Hot Seat

NFL

The Giants are suffering. There are officially no more questions about what is going on in the locker room. Daniel Jones, Brian Daboll, and Joe Schoen are all in trouble, especially Jones and Daboll at this point. The game against the Panthers was the final straw. The overtime loss completely sent them spiraling down into the depths of the NFL once again.

It’s time for the Giants to start over with both the head coach and the starting quarterback. They haven’t made many great decisions. Daboll’s decision to stick with Jones from the start hasn’t worked out. Nor have any of the other calls made this season. It looks bad for the Giants, and the fans deserve better than what they’ve been getting so far. The team has now lost five straight games. This looks really bad for them, and the sad part is, they’re already out of the playoffs. They were eliminated even before reaching the halfway point of the season.

Looking back, Giants fans had big expectations for this year. They wanted the team to go far. However, with the way they’ve played, the Giants currently sit at a 2-8 record. It’s not embarrassing, but it’s far from great. The problem lies in what the Giants do on the field. It’s not all on Jones, and it’s not all on Daboll. Giants owner John Mara has stated that Daboll and Schoen aren’t going anywhere next season. Jones has been throwing the ball, but it has either been being intercepted, twice in the Panthers game, or he’s been sacked. The quarterback currently stands at 22-44-1 for the Giants. They knew it was never going to be easy to replace retired quarterback Eli Manning, but Jones was not the right guy for the job.

Daboll has maintained the momentum, wanting to keep Jones in as long as possible. However, he was furious after yesterday's game and has already started evaluating the quarterback for the next game. The likely reason for keeping Jones is his contract. The Giants have suffered game after game, and with this overtime loss, they may be having multiple meetings during their bye week. These discussions could start with Schoen and go all the way down to Jones. Daboll needs to stop making decisions like this.

They had the opportunity during this year's draft to pick a brand new quarterback, but they chose Malik Nabers. No one has a problem with that; Jones is done at this point, and Daboll needs to accept it. They’ll let Jones go and out of his contract before the end of the season. However, if they have another game like this, Daboll may not be far behind him. The team needs to figure things out before their game in Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
