Giants Release Former Starting Quarterback
It has been a very hard week for the New York Giants, especially for their former starting quarterback Daniel Jones. After being benched by the Giants earlier this week and moved down to the fourth-string quarterback of the team when the team signed former Jets quarterback, Tim Boyle. Jones was moved to the safety squad. He was not thrilled with where he had been moved to. As of today, officially after everything that has happened, the Giants and Jones have decided to part ways.
Jones was cut from the Giants, and it was not the Giants' decision, it was actually his. He came to owner John Mara and asked to be released as of this morning. They came to a mutual agreement and Jones is officially no longer a New York Giant. He will now go on waivers, but due to his contract, he is fully expected to be cleared to go into free agency. Jones is expected to receive a 20-million-dollar payout in dead money from the Giants as a result of his release.
The 2019 sixth-round pick was with the Giants for the last six seasons. However, he just wasn’t able to make things happen for them. In total, he had 14,582 yards, scored 70 touchdowns, and had a total of 47 interceptions. Even though he was not the greatest quarterback that the Giants ever had, he still did some work. He did have only one really great season and that was when he took the Giants to the first round of the playoffs in the 22-23 postseason, however, they were eliminated by the Eagles.
The Giants will now move on from Jones and use the other three quarterbacks that they have. Next year, they will be able to draft a new quarterback for the team and be scouting out during the off-season. Tommy DeVito will run the team for this weekend's game, however, head coach Brian Daboll is not sure if they are going to stick with them. Drew Lock and DeVito will also walk at the end of the season and enter into free agency.
