Giants Rookie Quarterback Might Be the Team’s New Hero

NFL

Jaxson Dart is already turning heads at OTA’s. Before this week, all the fans, coaching staff, and franchise knew that Russell Wilson was going to be the starting quarterback and Dart was going to be the third string quarterback. However, things may turn around during OTA's if Dart keeps showing that he’s got what it takes to be a starter sooner rather than later. Head coach Brian Daboll is making this young rookie earn his spot.

There were two words that described exactly how Dart was during his first week OTA’s, he was confident and he was comfortable. Rookie mini-camps never really show what a rookie is all about, it’s the OTA’s that really give off a feel of how everyone is. Many Giants members have already agreed that Dart is showing his true colors and he is a great person to play with and put himself out there. The only difference there is also with OTA’s is not everyone is there, so the people Dart has already met are already happy with him.

Dart ran drills with the Giants first string. He was behind Wilson who was also running the same drills that he was. One of the most notable areas that Dart really stood out was when he passed the ball to wide receiver Jalin Hyatt who is also working hard to bring the heat this season, right into the end zone. The Giants rookie quarterback also turned a scoring pass to running back Dante Miller and showed how fast he can move on a few times that he needed to scramble, one that actually resulted in a touchdown when he ran up the side of the field.

Dart did also struggle at points when he threw a few interceptions during practice time. However, he spoke with Tommy DeVito and Daboll about what he could change and fix. It made a bit of a difference for him following this. Daboll won’t reveal the quarterback plans at the moment, but things may change before the season starts and the rookie quarterback may see some real action in the regular season. The preseason may also be a tell tale of where the Giants will stand with him. They watched him when he was at Ole Miss and if he can pull off those same plays, it may be just the move he needs to take his career with the Giants further.

The Giants will get to see more of Dart during OTA’s. It’s not mandatory but if he keeps this up for mandatory Giants camp, it would make a big difference and really scramble the Giants up with wanting to get him out there more. OTA’s will continue for the next week. Dart may be the Giants future quarterback in a few years, but he may also be the Giants next Eli Manning.
