Hall of Fame Running Back Hired as Colorado’s Running Backs Coach
Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk has been named the running backs coach for the University of Colorado's football team under head coach Deion Sanders. The program announced the hiring on Thursday night. This marks Faulk's first coaching role at any level. He brings a wealth of experience from his illustrious NFL career, during which he amassed over 12,000 rushing yards and 100 touchdowns. Faulk and Sanders share a history, having both been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 and working together at NFL Network from 2006 to 2017.
Faulk's addition to the coaching staff is not just a change but a potential game-changer for Colorado's running game. The Buffaloes have faced challenges in recent seasons, ranking last in the FBS in rushing yards per game in both 2023 and 2024. However, with Faulk's expertise and the departure of Sheduer Sanders, the team is poised to make significant strides in their running game. Running the ball can help you win games.
Faulk's addition to the Colorado staff is not just about numbers but about his unique experience. He joins Warren Sapp, who is also a defensive line coach. With Sanders, Faulk, and Sapp, the Buffaloes have three NFL Hall of Famers on the coaching staff. Their collective experience, including their time as NFL Network analysts, brings a wealth of football knowledge to the Colorado staff, instilling confidence in the team's coaching capabilities.
Faulk had an outstanding career while at San Diego State. In three years as an Aztec, Faulk rushed for 4,589 yards and 57 touchdowns. He also caught 82 passes for 973 yards and five touchdowns. This college career earned him a place in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017 and honed his skills and understanding of the game, which he now brings to his coaching role. Faulk was a three-time First Team All-WAC selection and two-time unanimous All-American; he was in the top three of the Heisman Trophy voting all three seasons and was the runner-up to Gino Torretta as a junior. Faulk had an outstanding college and pro football career. The kids in Colorado will be lucky to have him on the staff.
