How Dangerous is the Bears DB Room?

NFL

In the history of the Chicago Bears, one thing has always been a part of their identity, despite the results that may follow. The “Monsters of the Midway” moniker has represented the Bears’ defense in its 106-year history. While the offense in Chicago has not always been a positive for the fans to brag about, the defense has played a huge role in the team's success over the years. While the 2025 season is shaping up to be a positive one for the brand-new Bears offense, led by quarterback Caleb Williams and new head coach Ben Johnson, fans have begun to talk less about one of the most talented defensive backrooms in the NFL. How good will the DB room in Chicago be this year?

Leading the group is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, Jaylon Johnson. The six-year veteran has had 214 total tackles, four forced fumbles, and seven interceptions in his career. He would also earn two Pro Bowl selections in 2023 and 2024. After a contract extension was agreed upon in 2024 for Johnson after months of negotiation, he would sign a four-year extension worth $76 million, ensuring he would continue to be the leader of the Bears’ defense. However, Johnson is not working alone in 2025.

Cornerback Kyler Gordon has become a huge bright spot in the Bears’ defense. Gordon would be drafted in 2022, immediately making an impact and donning the Spider-Man gimmick as a part of his play. Alongside his lockdown ability against any opposing wide receiver, Gordon has 207 total tackles, 147 solo tackles, and five interceptions in his career. Gordon has become largely reliable for the Bears, being able to stay relatively healthy and provide consistent defense. He wouldn’t come alone, however, in the 2022 NFL Draft for the Bears.

Safety Jaquan Brisker had a tough season last year. Brisker would go down with a concussion in Week Five and not return for the rest of the season. While many questions surrounded his health and career after the season concluded, Brisker is ready to go for 2025. Prior to his injury, he would play two full seasons with Chicago, where he would have over 100 total tackles in both 2022 and 2023. He would also earn one interception in each of his three seasons in the NFL, even before he was injured last season. While the injury may have taken him out of action for an entire year, Brisker is looking for a career season to show the NFL that he can be one of the best safeties in the league. The offense in Chicago may be becoming exciting, but the defensive backs are looking to continue to make the defense the most dangerous part of the Windy City.
