Is It Time for Tommy?
The Giants are already in a disastrous position for this season. After last weekend's game, the Giants currently stand at a 2-8 record. They are tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the worst record in the NFL this season. New York's head coach Brian Daboll is thinking about benching his starting quarterback Daniel Jones. Fans have been speculating all along and they are hoping to see the return of fan favorite Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock before they return after their bye week.
This is the first time fans have heard the head coach has tossed around the idea of not playing his 160-million-dollar quarterback this season. He’s not thrilled about the idea, but after the performance in Germany last week, many questions have been tossed around. Daboll has not mentioned the idea but he had definitely been thinking about it. When asked he has always said that Jones is the guy for the Giant. Daboll is also getting the heat for everything that has been happening with the Giants so far this season.
Jones has been downhill for the Giants for a very long time. He had one really great season back in 2022 where he took this team to the first round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles. the 160 million-dollar man has not thrown more than three touchdowns in a game since his rookie season. There is no defending his case anymore, it’s just over for Jones.
DeVito will most likely be the guy put in if the Giants decide to make any decisions on the avenue. Last season during his rookie season with New York the current third-string quarterback had a record of 3-3 in six starts and gave the Giants a three-game winning streak, something they hadn’t seen in a while. He was truly remarkable on the field and hopefully, he can resume his hot play this season. Lock can also step in because he has been able to do the mop-up work and learn everything that the Giants can do. He has been decent on the field each time he has stepped in. He can do what DeVito can, just on a smaller scale.
Jones finished the Panthers games with 22 of 37 for 190 yards. No touchdowns were thrown and two interceptions in the red zone. A really bad look for the Giants. Jones also had several missed opportunities. One to Malik Nabers that he completely missed out on. This game was ugly altogether. Daboll was hoping for a turnaround with his quarterback but it looks like that is not going to happen. He and the coaching staff will be looking over everything this coming week and moving forward. Everyone is hoping for some kind of change and that the Giants will be able to bring the team back up to where they were once before. New York has suffered five straight losses.
Daboll will be working with the team and trying to get them to pull it together before they come back to face Tampa Bay. It’s been a really depressing season for the Giants, the coaches, and the fans. DeVito or Lock may or may not be the answer but looking back on so many things with these three quarterbacks. All of them are hitting free agency or most likely being let go at the end of the season. Finding the rhythm and putting in someone else might just be the answer. DeVito is definitely the guy the Giants may want to turn to if they have no other choices.
