Is Josh Giddey the Truth?

NBA

Josh Giddey recorded his fourth triple-double of the season in a 114-109 win against the Miami Heat yesterday. He ended the game with 26 points, ten rebounds and 12 assists on nine of 15 from the field. Giddey's dagger three with under 16 seconds left sealed the game for the Bulls, as they still continue to fight for the last play-in spot in the Eastern Conference. After backlash from Chicago fans and around the NBA for trading All-NBA defender Alex Caruso for him, has Giddey shut those critics up?

Giddey on the season is averaging 13.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.7 rebounds. However, these stats do not tell the full story of how well he has played due to the Bulls roster construction they had done mid-season. Since the all-star break, Giddey in eight games for the Bulls has averaged 22.4 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists on 50.8 percent from the field and 54.4 percent from three. In this stretch he has had seven double-doubles, and Chicago has gone four and four. The way he has been able to involve the Bulls, including new teammates, is arguably his best attribute. The new connection of him and newly traded Zach Collins looked good thus far, with Collins averaging 12.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in his ten games. With Giddey as the primary ball handler for Chicago, he has been putting up Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić-type numbers. Now the question is whether Chicago should resign him.

There are a couple of questions on the potential resigning of Giddey to Chicago. The first is his upcoming contract, which will likely be around 30 million a year. The second is the concern over his defense abilities. Both concerns are valid points to consider for a contending team; however, with the Bulls future looking bleak, his resigning looks adamant. Chicago is the sixth youngest team in the NBA, featuring him, Mata Buzelis, Coby White, Patrick Williams and others. This group of young players will look to carry the reins of the Bulls for the next couple of years in hopes of bringing them back to the glory days.
