New York Giants Eric Gray Named PFF Offensive Player of the Week
Eric Gray showed off what he had in Week One of the preseason. He impressed nearly everyone who turned in to watch the first game of the preseason on Thursday night. He gained 98 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns for the team. These were the only two touchdowns that the Giants had throughout the entire game against the Detroit Lions this past week, and nothing went unnoticed. Pro Football Focus took notice of his actions from this game, named him to their team for this week, and gave him the award of Offensive Player of the Week.
Gray ensured everyone knew he was on the field. He kept moving the ball down the field. The goal that the Giants always go for during each of their games, but they always struggle to find a way to make ends meet. Gray’s performance ensured he was both on the ground and in the air. Performing an ankle-breaking juke during the game, pushing the ball down the field, and hauling an over-the-shoulder 24-yard catch from current backup quarterback Tommy DeVito
He finished this game with great stats. He had four carries for 52 yards, including his two touchdowns, mainly from an impressive 48-yard run during the second quarter. This touchdown run got him the most attention from around the league. However, his ability to receive could get Gray the most attention. This ability could earn him a starting role for the Giants during the regular season this year. He’s been with the Giants for two years and has played in a few games, but this is his greatest one yet.
His impressive performance earned him the first Giants wire Player of the Game honor for 2024. Gray gave the Giants a 90.2 overall grade in Week One of the preseason. He made the Giants look great this week and going forward. Hopefully, fans will see more of him during the regular season this year. As Gray moves his numbers up, he is beginning to match the levels of other quarterbacks on the Giants' offensive line, such as Tryrone Tracy Jr. and Dante Miller. All three are helping the Giants build a more stable and functional offensive line during this preseason as they look to exceed expectations for this regular season.
