The St Louis Blues and Their Current Win Streak
The St Louis Blues currently have the longest winning streak in the NHL at seven games. In their last 10 games, they have eight wins, one regulation loss, and one overtime loss. With a potential playoff spot on the line, the Blues have momentum at exactly the right time. To examine this current winning streak, we need to examine each individual game. They began their winning streak on March 15th in Minnesota against the Wild. They won 5-1 in large part thanks to a Jordan Kyrou hat trick.
The day after, they won 7-2 at home to the Anaheim Ducks, with Kyrou having three assists. While Joel Hofer was the goalie on the 15th, Jordan Binnington was behind the net on the 16th. On the 18th, the Blues won on the road against a divisional rival in the Nashville Predators. This was their closest win so far of the streak, at 4-1. However, their closest win of this current streak would be on the 20th at home against the Vancouver Canucks. This was a 4-3 overtime win. Philip Broberg scored the game-winning goal.
On the 22nd, they again won 4-1. This time, that win was at home to another divisional rival in the Chicago Blackhawks. The next day, they once again won 4-1 to the Predators, albeit in St Louis. The most recent win was a 6-1 blowout to the Montreal Canadiens. Throughout all seven wins, the Blues have allowed a mere 10 goals, just above one goal a game. This is regardless of whether Hofer or Binnington is the goalie. This is a testament to how crushing their defense is and how well their goalie duo has been. During this streak, they have had a rotating cast of scoring players, scoring a total of 34 goals across these seven games. This is an average of nearly five goals a game.
Not only are the St Louis Blues winning seven games in a row, but the vast majority of these games have been blowouts regardless of which players get the most points and regardless of who is the goalie. If this isn’t proof that the Blues are on all cylinders when it comes to team chemistry, nothing is. That being said, St Louis has nine games left of the season. There are some very tough opponents coming up, including the Winnipeg Jets, the Edmonton Oilers, and facing the Colorado Avalanche twice. It will be exciting to see what this win streak means for the playoff position given to the Blues and how long this streak will continue.
