Three Biggest Needs for the Giants This Offseason
The New York Giants have been nothing ever since getting to the playoffs and winning the Wild Card round against the Minnesota Vikings. They have plenty of losses from that roster, most notably Saquon Barkley. There are plenty of holes that will need to be addressed this coming off-season. Joe Schoen has a lot of work to do this offseason to put this team in the right direction via the draft and the free agency market.
Cornerbacks
When it comes to how this team was beaten down in most games, it was opposing receivers beating the cornerbacks. They thought they had a cornerback one in Deonte Banks, but the sophomore slump hit and he was torched by opposing receivers. The second corner was Adoree’ Jackson, who frankly was brought back because there were no other options available at the time. The Giants will need to bolster this positional group either via the draft in the first or second round, or a free agent addition like Charvarius Ward or D.J Reed.
A Franchise Quarterback
The Giants took a step in the wrong direction giving Daniel Jones 180 million for four years as he never truly deserved the money, but instead was given that for taking the team to the playoffs. Frankly, there was much more to that team than him, but after moving on from him in the midst of this season, they were rolling with Drew Lock. The Giants can take this in a multitude of ways. They can draft their guy with the third overall pick in either Cameron Ward or Shedeur Sanders, draft a guy in the second round like Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe, or look at a possible bridge quarterback with Sam Darnold or Justin Fields.
Interior Lineman
The Giants’ offensive line took a step in the right direction under the new offensive line coach. John Michael-Schmitz had somewhat of a sophomore slump, Andrew Thomas went down early and their big signing of Jon Runyan was a huge disappointment. Greg Van Roten was brought in but likely will not be back with the team next year, so an interior lineman is in dire need. They could address it through the draft with Tyler Booker or Tate Ratledge or could look at a guy who is getting a lot of buzz and expecting to hit the free agency market in Trey Smith. They need to address this position immediately after figuring out their next franchise quarterback.
