Three Defensive Free Agents the Raiders Should Target

NFL

The Las Vegas Raiders, with their potential to have a top defense in the 2024 season, faced challenges due to injuries and offensive struggles. This led to the defense not performing as expected, giving up 25.5 points per game and ranking near last in takeaways. However, with $92 million to spend, the Raiders are poised to improve their defense. Here is who the Raiders could target in free agency.

Josh Sweat (Edge Rusher)

It is hard to believe that the Philadelphia Eagles will not return Josh Sweat. If Sweat does not return to the Eagles for whatever reason, the Raiders must be all in to get him to Las Vegas. Sweat had eight sacks this past season and would look nice teaming with Maxx Crosby. If you want to win a Super Bowl, you need to be able to pressure the quarterback.

Milton Williams (Defensive Tackle)

Milton Williams had five sacks this season for the Eagles and two sacks in the Super Bowl. Williams would be a great addition to the Raiders teaming up with Christian Wilkins to create pressure up the middle. The Super Bowl showed us that if you can get to the quarterback with four rushers, you can be successful. Williams and Wilkins would make a nice tandem in the middle of the Raiders' defense.

D.J. Reed (Cornerback)

D.J. Reed could be a player the Raiders could add to improve their secondary and defense. Reed has good coverage skills and is versatile in the secondary. His ability to effectively match up against various receiving threats would be valuable to the Raiders' secondary. Reed's experience and proven track record make him a strong candidate to elevate the team's pass defense.

With a lot of money to spend, the Raiders are in a primed position to improve their defense. With Carroll at the helm, the Raiders will try to turn the team around quickly. With free agency coming up and then the draft, the Raiders have a path to build a successful competitive roster in the future. Las Vegas must pick the right players who will come in and help the team right away.
