Two-Time NFC Champion Linebacker Signs with Broncos
The Denver Broncos came to terms with Dre Greenlaw on a contract. The soon-to-be 28-year-old signed a three-year, $35 million deal. Greenlaw has made two Super Bowl appearances, unfortunately losing to the Chiefs both times, and is looking to go back again. In his postseason career, he’s racked up 72 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two interceptions in his playoff career, establishing him as a reliable playoff performer.
Greenlaw has had an exceptional career despite still being relatively young. Drafted as a 21-year-old, the 49ers took Greenlaw in the fifth round in 2019. In a loaded linebacker draft that included the likes of Devin White, Devin Bush, Jahlani Tavai, Germaine Pratt, and Andrew Van Ginkel, Greenlaw stands out as an exceptional linebacker for a day-three pick. Greenlaw has spent his entire career in San Francisco, and in that time he’s accumulated 455 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions. The one-two punch of him and Fred Warner has arguably been the best linebacker duo in the entire league.
The former Arkansas Razorback has been a very good linebacker when he’s been on the field. However, he has an injury that can’t be ignored. In 2020, he suffered his first injury that forced him to miss time, a quad injury that left him sidelined for two games. The following season, Greenlaw suffered a groin injury that forced the 49ers to place him on injured reserve and subsequently made him miss 14 games. The 2023 season was looking up as he started 15 games with 120-plus tackles in back-to-back seasons. Unfortunately, bad luck struck him again when he tore his Achilles just 12 plays into Super Bowl LVIII. That rolled over into last season, forcing a drama-filled aftermath of Week 15 when Greenlaw started over De’Vondre Campbell and Campbell refused to come back into the game since he lost his starting spot.
