UFC Vegas 101 Dern vs Ribas 2: Full Recap

UFC

Mackenize Dern and Amanda Ribas squared off in the main event of UFC Vegas 101. Fans knew they were in for an exciting stylist matchup once again from two of the top Strawweights in the world. Mackenize Dern got her win back with an impressive round three armbar submission victory. We will breakdown how Dern was able to pull off this win and what is next in line for both fighters moving forward. We will also break down all the action that transpired throughout the whole main card.

The main card opened with a crazy 31 second KO upset from Punahele Soriano against Uros Medic. A killer overhand right was all it took to bring 2025 in with a bang. The second fight of the night was a brawl between two up and coming prospects, Christian Rodriguez and Austin Bashi. Another undefeated prospect fell at the hands of Christian Rodriguez as he stayed cool, calm and collected while slowly picking Bashi apart for a 3 round unanimous decision victory. Roman Kopylov showcased his thrilling combinations as he was able to land a controversial head kick KO victory against fellow striker Chris Curtis. Standout Kickboxer Cesar Almeida exhibited his high level striking as he was able to face early adversity and land a devastating left hook that sent Adul Razak Alhassan to the shadow realm. In the Co-main event two pioneers faced off as Santiago Ponzinibbio showed there is still a lot left in the tank as he was able to overcome a knockdown in round one to secure an impressive KO victory over Carlston Harris.

Mackenzie Dern rematched Amanda Ribas in a compelling main event. Both fighters came out swinging ealy landing clean combinations, Dern was able to use her striking to effectively land a takedown and use her ground control time to secure round one. In round two Dern failed her next takedown attempt but was able to cut Ribas with an elbow while on her back, however she was unable to get back to her feet as Ribas successfully controlled her for the majority to win round two. In round 3 Ribas was able to counter Dern and take her down but Dern used an armbar to sweep Ribas and secure full mount and submit Ribas with an armbar to secure the victory. I believe Dern should face number three ranked Virna Jandiroba, which would be an intense battle between two of the best women grapplers in the UFC. As for Ribas, I think a matchup between number four ranked Jessica Andrade would be an exciting scrap that somehow has yet to happen at this point.
