Why Saints Offensive Line Has To Be a Top 10 Unit This Season

NFL

As the 2025 NFL season kicks off, the New Orleans Saints find themselves in a critical position. With a revamped offense, young quarterbacks vying for the starting job, and a defense built to win now, the pressure is on the offensive line to rise to the occasion. For the Saints to have any shot at returning to playoff relevance, their offensive line must emerge as a top-10 unit in the NFL this season. Under new head coach Kellen Moore, who coached behind one of the league’s best lines in Philadelphia last year, expectations for the trenches are sky-high, and rightfully so. Let's dive into why this Offense, specifically the offensive line, can be one of the dominant ones in the league this year.

Kellen Moore arrives in New Orleans with a reputation for offensive innovation, but just as importantly, he knows what elite offensive line play looks like. In 2024, Moore coordinated an Eagles offense that thrived behind arguably the best offensive line in football. That experience is invaluable as he begins to reshape the Saints’ identity. He understands the importance of physical dominance up front, how it keeps the offense on schedule, opens up the run game, and gives young quarterbacks confidence in the pocket. The stakes are even higher with Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler battling for the starting quarterback job. Both are unproven at the NFL level and will need protection to grow and settle into their roles. Without a reliable offensive line, any development for either quarterback could be derailed before it starts.

One of the biggest reasons the Saints’ offensive line has struggled in recent years isn’t talent; it’s health. Injuries to key players have disrupted continuity, forced backups into starting roles, and hindered the group’s overall performance. Whether it was Ryan Ramczyk battling chronic knee issues, Andrus Peat missing stretches of games, or Trevor Penning dealing with multiple setbacks, the line has rarely played together at full strength. How much the Saints have invested in the unit makes it all the more frustrating. They’ve spent first or second-round picks on offensive linemen in nearly every draft over the past several years. Penning, Ruiz, Fuaga, and Kelvin Banks have recently committed big contracts to veterans like Ramczyk and Erik McCoy. The resources are there. The talent is in place. It’s time for this group to put everything together and finally perform at the expected level.

The Saints have no choice but to get elite play from their offensive line in 2025. With Kellen Moore at the helm and young quarterbacks under center, the offense's success starts up front. Injuries have derailed this unit recently, but the talent and investment are undeniable. The front office has spent high draft picks and big money to build a line capable of dominating. Now is the time for that group to stay healthy, come together, and finally play like one of the top 10 units in the NFL.
