Nine-Time Pro Bowler Signs with Chargers
Khalil Mack, a pivotal force, contributed significantly to the Los Angeles Chargers under the guidance of first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh. His influence was instrumental in the team's successful season with playoff aspirations. In fact, he has been an impact player at every stop of his career. Now, at 33, Mack has decided to stay put, signing a one-year deal worth $18 million in free agency.
Since being drafted by the then-Oakland Raiders in 2014, Mack has defied all odds to become one of the best edge rushers in NFL history. His rookie season with the Raiders, where he compiled four sacks, was just the beginning. Despite initial doubts, he rose to the occasion in his next season with the Raiders, achieving 15 sacks and making his first Pro Bowl. This was just the start of a journey that saw him make three more Pro Bowls with the Raiders before being traded to the Chicago Bears, where he continued his strong play, making the Pro Bowl in three of the four years.
Mack was again traded in 2022 to the Los Angeles Chargers, where Mack and Joey Bosa created a bond. The edge rusher made the Pro Bowl in all three seasons with Los Angeles. This season, Mack, despite only having six sacks, caused a lot of havoc on opposing quarterbacks. In his 11-year career, Mack has compiled 107.5 sacks and 142 tackles for a loss. After the Chargers 32-12 playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Mack sounded unsure about his future. "Man, it's a lot of different thoughts in my head right now," he said via ESPN’s Kris Rhim. "I can't really speak on a definitive decision in terms of what I'm going to do because I don't know if I'm going to play football moving forward, so there's some things I got to talk through with my wife, spend some time with my kids and try not to make a rash decision after a loss." However, for now, Mack will be signing with the Chargers, and they will get their future Hall of Fame edge rusher back.
