Two-Time Pro Bowl Edge Rusher Signs with the Buccaneers

NFL

Two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year 14 million dollar deal. The 13th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft has enjoyed an up-and-down career after being initially drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. After a slow start in his fourth year in Arizona, he finally got his sack numbers back on track with 12.5. That offseason the team decided to let him walk in free agency.

Then the soon-to-be two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Reddick signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. Reuniting with old college coach Matt Ruhle, he followed up his breakout season with 11 sacks. He then parlayed that into a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Where in his first season in Philly Reddick had a career year being named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams as well as finishing fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting. That season he had 16 sacks and led the league with five forced fumbles.

The very next season Reddick followed up his career year in Philly with another 11 sacks and a Pro Bowl. Then the two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher informed the Eagles organization that he would not attend any voluntary offseason programs without a new contract. This led to him being traded to the New York Jets. Where some type of miscommunication had to have occurred between his camp and New York. As the Jets would have been open to discussing an extension and assumed he would play without a new deal. For Reddick, he believed he would be extended.

Regardless the two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher was traded to the Jets without a new deal. Then, Reddick proceeded to hold out of training camp and the first half of what was a disappointing season with the Jets. The holdout would drag into the start of the regular season. Where Reddick would miss the first seven games of the season. Then after rejoining the team had the least productive season among edge rushers in the NFL.

The two-time Pro Bowl had a disappointing one year with the Jets. Where he only totaled one sack and the lowest sack rate among qualified players. So for the Bucs, they have to be okay with the risk and put a lot of hope in the upside. Hopefully, for them, Hasson Reddick will return to his prior form with the Eagles during the duration of this contract.
