Ravens Pour on 21 Points in the Fourth Quarter to Sweep the Bengals in Season Series
Remember back in Week Two when everyone began to panic because the Baltimore Ravens started off the season 0-2? Well, they have won seven out of their last eight games and look virtually unstoppable. During Week 10’s Thursday Night Football matchup, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 428 passing yards, and even with all that offense, the Ravens defense ultimately shut him down in the late seconds of this ball game. Due to a missed two-point conversion, Baltimore would walk away with a 35-34 victory. At 7-3, they inch closer to tying the Pittsburgh Steelers for first place within the AFC North division. Coincidentally enough, next Sunday, the Ravens and Steelers will face off in Pittsburgh, while the Bengals will head to Los Angeles to face the Chargers.
Within five and a half minutes of the game, Cincinnati would get on the board first with a one-yard rushing touchdown by running back Chase Brown. Bengals kicker Evan McPherson successfully knocked down the extra point to make it a 7-0 game. Baltimore would not tie this game up until two minutes into the second quarter. Baltimore’s quarterback Lamar Jackson hurled a six-yard touchdown to receiver Nelson Agholor, then kicker Justin Tucker hit in the extra point. It wouldn’t be until there were 30 seconds before halftime that the Bengals would score again and take the lead. Burrow found tight end Tanner Hudson for a three-yard touchdown pass, and with McPherson kicking in the extra point, Cincinnati walked into halftime with a 14-7 lead.
Cincinnati would go up by 14 nearly two minutes into the third quarter, with Burrow targeting receiver Ja’Marr Chase for a 67-yard touchdown. McPherson’s extra point would give the Bengals a two-touchdown lead. About nine minutes later, the Ravens would cut the lead to seven when running back Derrick Henry ran into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown. Tucker’s extra point made this a 21-14 game. A minute and a half into the final quarter of play, Ravens receiver Tylan Wallace brought down an 84-yard touchdown pass from Jackson. However, Baltimore would miss the extra point attempt, making the Bengals still lead in this game by one. Eight minutes later, tight end Mark Andrews grabbed an 18-yard touchdown pass. Jackson would rush the ball in successfully during a two-point conversion attempt. Baltimore now had a seven-point lead with time close to expiring. However, thirteen seconds later, Chase would catch his second touchdown of the night, an absolute bomb of 70 yards. With McPherson’s kick, the game was now tied at 28.
With a minute and 49 seconds left, Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman brought down a five-yard touchdown. Tucker knocked down the extra point, giving Baltimore a 35-28 lead. Cincinnati would march down the field within a minute. With 38 seconds left, Chase made his third touchdown grab of the night, this time for five yards. The Bengals needed to go for a two-point conversion to go up by one and win the game at 36-35, yet this team would miss the two-point conversion attempt, which would ultimately give them a hard-hitting loss.
Jackson finished this game going 25 for 33 with 290 passing yards and four touchdowns. Henry had 16 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown. Tylan Wallace had 130 receiving yards with just three receptions. Burrow went 34 for 56, hurling 428 passing yards and four touchdowns.
